Daily Schedule
Our school year begins in mid-September and ends in early June. Click to see our School Calendar.
Our Morning
Drop-Off
We open our main door 15 minutes prior to each class start time to greet the children as they arrive. This gives parents ample transition time to bring their child downstairs, first visiting the bathroom to wash hands before signing them in to their class where teachers are ready to start the school morning.
Center Exploration & Choice Time
Self-directed centers of interest are set up in the classroom to allow children to independently choose activities that help them separate and adjust to the beginning of the day.
Clean-Up
Children gain a sense of responsibility and work as a group member to help pick up toys and put materials back on shelves.
Morning Meeting
Children gather together to greet one another, record the weather, mark the calendar, sing songs, listen to stories, practice finger play and talk about what they will learn that day. This is a time where children practice self-regulation, increase attention span and develop listening skills.
Tabletop Activity
Opportunity is provided that encourages the use of social and language skills while children work on theme-related projects. The teachers also work on cognitive and fine motor manipulative activities.
Restroom Break
This time allows us to encourage good hygiene and self-care skills.
Snack Time & Share-n-Tell
This gives children the opportunity to practice language and social skills. Healthy eating is promoted. Soft music is played to create a calm eating environment.
Independent Reading
Children select books of interest and practice emergent reading skills.
Indoor Gym
This is a time for children to develop large motor skills through movement and formulate their own plan as they engage in activities with other children in our large open play space. Teacher’s use this time to first, observe how children gather information, interact with peers and solve problems; and to facilitate the children’s activities when needed.
Whole & Small Group Activities
Opportunity is provided that encourages the use of social and language skills while children work on the letter of the week or engage in an activity that relates to the curriculum unit theme.
Specialty Classes
Specialty teachers in Movement & Music, Chess and Spanish meet with each class during the week. The morning schedule is adapted slightly to accommodate them.
Closing Circle
The children come together to hear a story and say good-bye to each other through song. Children who leave at noon (11:30 for 2s) gather their belongings to go home.
Pick-Up
Teachers bring the children up to the school’s main door where they wait until contact is made with each parent or caregiver before sending the child out.
Our Afternoon
Restroom Break
This time allows us to encourage good hygiene and self-care skills.
Lunch Time
Children socialize while they eat their packed lunch from home and practice courtesy and good manners. Soft music is played to create a calm eating environment.
Independent Reading
As children finish eating, they are encouraged to read quietly until all their friends have finished.
Quiet Rest Time
This provides a time for children to calm down and relax after a full morning of activities. Soft music is played, and children rest or read quietly on individual mats for 30 minutes.
Indoor Gym
This is a second opportunity for children to move their entire bodies and engage with friends. Social skills are developed as they learn to interact with others and solve problems.
Enrichment Activities
The children work on projects that relate to the unit theme or letter of the week. Teachers continue to work on cognitive and small motor manipulative skills with activities that include cooking, yoga, and STEM experiments.
